Marriage is one of the seven sacraments. It is a sacred and lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, in which they vow to love, honor, and be faithful to each other. This sacrament mirrors the love that Christ has for the Church and is seen as a reflection of God’s love.
Key aspects of Catholic marriage include:
Unity and Indissolubility: Marriage is a lifelong bond that cannot be dissolved, meaning the couple is united "until death do them part."
Fidelity: The spouses pledge to be faithful to each other, both physically and emotionally.
Openness to Children: The couple must be open to procreation and willing to raise their children in the Catholic faith.
Sacramental Grace: The couple receives grace from God to help them live out their marriage vows, especially in difficult times.
The marriage ceremony typically takes place within a Mass, where the couple exchanges vows before God, a priest, and witnesses, making their union sacramental.
